Answers to your questions

Is there a cost to using The Tax Rebate Specialists?

There's no upfront cost, and no win, no fee — you only pay if we successfully recover money for you. Our fee is 30% of the rebate we recover, subject to a minimum fee of £50. However large your rebate, you'll never pay more than £1,000 in fees.

Is my information secure?

Yes. We handle all personal data you provide in accordance with UK data protection legislation, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What happens after I submit my claim?

Our team reviews your claim and, with your agreement, acts on your behalf to review and submit it to HMRC. We'll be in touch if we need anything else from you.

What documents do I need to make a claim?

None are required to get started. Documents such as a recent payslip, your P60, or receipts for expenses are optional and can be added during the claim or sent to us later.

What tax years can I claim for?

You can currently claim for the 2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25, 2025/26, and 2026/27 tax years, and can select more than one if you haven't claimed before.

Does it matter if my employer already reimbursed me for something?

Yes — only costs you paid yourself are eligible, so the form asks you to note any amount your employer has already reimbursed.

Do I need to know my exact subscription amount?

Not necessarily — for many organisations we already hold the standard subscription rate and pre-fill it for you. You can confirm it or amend it if your rate is different.

What if my union or professional body isn't listed?

You can select "Other" from the list and enter the name yourself.

I'm not in a union — can I still claim?

Yes. If you're not a union member, you can still claim for a professional body subscription instead, along with any other eligible expenses.

What's the difference between a union and a professional body?

Both can have subscription fees that qualify for tax relief. The claim form asks separately whether you belong to a union, a professional body, or both, so we can look up the correct subscription rate for the organisation you select.

What expenses can I claim for?

You may be able to claim for union membership fees, professional body membership fees, classroom supplies, specialist clothing or equipment, and work-related travel.
